Translation
Al-Basit-22

Contemporary Refs.

The body of books, articles, monographs and websites dedicated to Nueva FilosofÍa and to the Sabuco figures -daughter and father- is voluminous and growing. The Dec1987 issue of Al-Basit has until recently been the benchmark in excellency in disseminating this work. It will now be joined by a major opus in the sabucean saga: the first-ever translation of Nueva Filosofía (in English). In addition, we are thrilled to document a new wave of "transatlantic" scholars who is invigorating the field with new approaches to and revisits of Sabuco's Nueva FilosofÍa. Although sometimes the debate about the authorship has sapped some energy from the core mission, i.e., broadening the study of the work, it is reassuring to see that a careful evaluation of the evidences has been carried out when sorting authors for this English translation that will discover Sabuco to a vaster audience.

T R A N S L A T I O N !!!

The first-ever translation of Nueva Filosofía in any language is about to be brought out (English) by University of Illinois Press (ISBN 0 252 031 113) for the Fall 2006. Maria Colomer Vintro (first draft) and Mary Ellen Waithe translated the treatises in Castilian, C Angel Zorita and Mary Ellen Waithe rendered the Dicta Brevia -two opuscula in Latin- and Maria Colomer Vintro and Mary Ellen Waithe coauthored an interpretation of the work in the Introduction

Al-Basit, a periodical (now renamed Sabuco) of the Instituto Estudios Albacetenses (Spain) dedicated an excellent monograph in its issue 22 of Dec 1987 to Nueva Filosofía and the figures of Miguel and Oliva Sabuco. The contents of this volume may be seen on the side table. The Instituto, through the Centro de Estudios Castilla-La Mancha, obliges a commendable open-door policy by maintaining active this website. Contemporary References

It is not surprising that the renewed interest in Sabuco brought about by the impending translation of Nueva Filosofía has resulted in additional references by new researchers and supplementary contributions by senior scholars of Sabuco. The Internet has helped stoking the curiosity about the interpretation of NF, and peering at the authorship dispute. The "contemporary" list offered below is not classified in any hierarchal or chronological order but dictated by the volume of available references.
